Vancouver Waterfront and Luxury Homes

Kitsilano Area Information

When it comes to luxury real estate in British Columbia, some of the most exclusive neighbourhoods contain a population that is predominantly comprised of older generations. The neighbourhood of Kitsilano (or locally, “Kits”) in the western part of the city of Vancouver is an exception to this rule. The community has seen a sharp rise in the cost and the quality of housing over the last three decades, yet it has retained it appeal to a younger demographic, including families and young singles.

No doubt a part of the reason why Kits continues to attract younger families and students is that it is located within a few minutes’ drive of the campus of the University of British Columbia. Another big point in favour of the Kitsilano neighbourhood as far as housing is concerned is that the whole northern boundary of the community is essentially made up of large homes on ocean front property; Cornwall Avenue and Point Grey Road (locally known in real estate circles as "The Golden Mile") run right along the southern part of English Bay. The area "North of Fourth" (street) is coveted by many young families and professionals, students, and wealthy urbanites as a prime area to live.

In addition, Kits is within close proximity to the downtown core of Vancouver and all that it has to offer residents. This includes a plethora of jobs within the Financial and Entertainment districts as well as all the recreational opportunities a big city like Vancouver can afford, including National Hockey League action courtesy of the Canucks at GM Place, five star restaurants, and some of the most unique shopping to be found in Western Canada. Opportunities for the latter include the Holt Renfrew just off the Four Seasons hotel as well as numerous high end retail outlets (Roots, Gucci, and so on).

The neighbourhood of Kitsilano is itself home to several unique “let’s go out” opportunities. As a leading community in the city, Kits has always been on the very sharpest part of the cutting edge when it comes to trends; it was home to the very first vegan/vegetarian restaurants (the Naam Cafe), the Topanga Cafe, as well as several of the city’s first pubs. It isn’t just food that is founded in Kits either; the Green party of Canada and Greenpeace also got their starts in this neighbourhood.

As you might expect in a community bordered by the Pacific Ocean in one of the continent’s cleanest cities, a popular draw in Kits (and one that drives up the price of homes as well) are the beaches of English Bay. Kits includes two of significance, Kitsilano Beach and Jericho Beach. "Kits Beach" is the best known beach to see and be seen in Vancouver, where you will find a mix of students, yuppies and some of the most "beautiful people" in the city bronzing on the beach in the summer months.

The healthy minded can find outdoor and indoor opportunities to fit their lifestyle, with gyms such as Kitsilano Workout complementing the many trails and runs along the seawall and dotting the coastline. The Kitsilano Showboat is an outdoor concert venue which hosts events all summer long, with the sky as a roof and the Coastal Mountains and the Pacific Ocean providing the backdrop.

Finally, if Canadian celebrities are any indication of a truly upscale neighbourhood, Kits once again fits the bill. Trevor Linden, David Suzuki, Jason Priestley, and Robin Blaser all make their homes in this neighbourhood.

When it comes to luxury living in British Columbia, Kits hits all the right marks. Here, you can find condos, townhomes or single family homes to enjoy the ammenities of the neighbourhood. It’s a neighbourhood where the natural beauty of the Pacific and the amenities of the big city combine to form the perfect dream in terms of living space.
